Puts in fire call before the resident knew the house was on fire
The quick action of Greene County deputy Shane Monthei Thursday morning may have drastically changed the outcome of a house fire in Scranton.
Monthei was on regular patrol in Scranton when he saw an unusual amount of smoke coming from a house in the 800 block of Main St. He said he drove around the block and realized there was smoke coming out of the attic vents. He put in a fire call at 7:44 am and then knocked on the door.
Resident Lester Johns was getting dressed but had no idea there was a fire in his attic. Monthei alerted him to leave, the Scranton fire department responded quickly.
According to Monthei, “I just did what any of us would have done.”
